Winter Maintenance Checklist

Cool weather is here, make sure both you and your home are as comfortable as possible by taking care of these maintenance items.

Change your furnace filter (monthly)
Snow removal from your property (ongoing throughout Winter)
Remove snow from window wells
Make sure garage door is in working order
Check fire extinguishers (make sure they’re not expired)
Clean dryer ducts
Clean air exchange filter (if applicable)
Test sump pump & change batteries in the battery back up (if applicable)
Replace batteries in smoke detectors & carbon monoxide detectors
Have sewer line cleaned (every couple years)
Shovel ice/melt out of garage to protect concrete garage floor (monthly)
Get larger and more durable entry mats to protect your floors from snow, boots, salt, etc.
Roof rake (to prevent ice dams) - ongoing as necessary
Check for air-leaks in the attic (easiest to do when there’s snow on the roof) - address leaks
Put shovel & ice scraper in your car - top off windshield wiper fluid. (we know this is a car thing, not a house thing, but while we’re at it)
Switch fan blade direction to clockwise
